Idea

Digital note apps are functional, but rarely personal. With Daerie, the goal was to make writing enjoyable again by keeping the feel of a paper notebook.

The app brings together a notebook-like interface, mood tracking and an AI companion that can draw on your journal with your permission. I handled the whole process myself, from the idea to the release on Google Play.

Technical depth

Problem and approach

Connecting AI to a journal while respecting privacy

A journal is a person's most private writing. It's useful for the assistant to use that context, but the user has to stay in control of it.

ApproachLLM API integration; the assistant only uses journal context according to the user's permissions and preferences.

One product, ten languages

Offering the same journaling experience to people in different languages.

ApproachMultilingual mobile development: Daerie supports 10 languages today.

Bringing the notebook feel to the screen

An app that's "like a notebook" should recall paper through its interactions, not just its visual theme.

ApproachPage-turn animations, customisable journals and a range of visual themes.
